Brewery boss slams BNP

April 12, 2007

A BREWERY boss has labelled the BNP “racist” after it emerged the party had used one of his pubs to hold a meeting.

William Lees-Jones, managing director of JW Lees, said he was “shocked” after a Guardian investigation revealed the Assheton Arms Hotel, on Market Place, was the venue for the far-right British National Party’s Middleton conference on Thursday 15 March.

“There’s no way we would support such a terrible organisation,” he said. “We would not want to be associated with them. They are racists and there’s no place for that sort of thinking. I recognise people’s right to freedom of speech, but they can go and do it somewhere else.”

He added: “It is the last meeting they will be holding at the Assheton Arms.”

Mr Lees-Jones said the BNP had booked the function room under an alias, saying it was for a business meeting. The manageress of the pub was unaware of the party’s presence, he added.
The BNP was due to hold another meeting at the Assheton Arms on Tuesday night but was forced to cancel after Mr Lees-Jones became aware of their conference.

Organiser of the BNP Rochdale branch, Kevin Bryan, said: “There will still be a meeting in Middleton. Even if it is on a car park we’ll do it, because that’s what the people of Middleton want.”

Mr Bryan said pub landlords across Greater Manchester welcome the BNP’s meetings and the party had used JW Lees pubs throughout the north west for many years.

He added he would send a letter to all party members to boycott JW Lees pubs in the north west after Mr Lees-Jones’ comments.

Two weeks ago, the BNP declared the town as one of its biggest growth areas and considered fielding a candidate for the local elections in May. But last week it was announced that no candidate from the BNP had been put forward in Rochdale borough.

The party now plans to hold regular monthly meetings in the area after the success of the March event, attended by around 30 people.

Mr Bryan said a look at the BNP’s party manifesto shows there is “nothing terrible about the organisation”.

Their 2006 council election manifesto promised an “asylum clampdown” and an end to “all council spending on all politically-correct projects designed to favour Labour and Liberal Democrat pet minorities”.

Auty Faces New Probe Over Song

April 12, 2007

The Yorkshire Evening Post can reveal a new inquiry into the activities of Kirklees Council’s Coun Colin Auty (BNP, Dewsbury East) could begin shortly.

He allegedly wrote a song called Saville Town, Where’s It Gone, in which he implied the area of Dewsbury, which is mainly populated by people of Asian origin, was rife with drug dealers and paedophiles.

The song also bemoaned the loss of pubs, fish n’ chip shops and chapels and lamented the increase in mosques, kebab shops and taxis

Labour MP Mr Malik referred the song to the Standards Board for England (SBE), the body which monitors councilors conduct, but they concluded they were unable to investigate the matter further because Coun Auty was deemed have been acting ‘in private” when he wrote the song.

However, since that complaint was investigated and news of the song released, Coun Auty has performed it in public outside Mr Malik’s office on Daisy Hill A video of the Incident even appears on the Internet.

The YEP understands that this separate incident will now become the subject of a second complaint and that it will be investigated fully by the SBE.

Sources revealed to the YEP that the SBE were “frustrated” at not being able to conduct an investigation into the first complaint, It is understood that after seeking expert legal advice, the case was dropped because it was considered highly likely that if it had been upheld, it would have been overturned on appeal.

That legal opinion was based on a precedent set last year when the Appeal Court overturned a ruling that London Mayor Ken Livingstone had acted improperly when he likened a Jewish reporter to a Nazi concentration camp guard.

The video of Coun Auty’s performance of the song in public, on Friday March 30, is prefaced by a caption which clearly states he is a BNP councilor.

The YEP has learned that the SBE would investigate this matter fully, possibly leading to the suspension of Coun Auty.

A spokesman from the SBE said: “We do not comment on complaints until they have been received. However, there is nothing to stop someone making a complaint about a new incident”

Mr Malik’s office refused to comment further on the matter but they are seriously considering making a fresh complaint.

BLOCKED: BNP MAN BARRED FROM POLL

COUNCIL WORKER CAN’T BE CANDIDATE

A BNP candidate has been barred from standing for Kirklees because he works for the council.

Leaders of the far-Right party hit out at the decision, saying that Allan Milton had been a candidate before.

BNP Huddersfield organiser Robert Walker said: “He was allowed to stand then, so why not now? “The fact is that the BNP is getting somewhere, so they have decided to pull the carpet from under us.”

Mr Milton is a fitter at the cleansing depot in Vine Street, Hillhouse. He had been due to stand for the BNP in Newsome at the May 3 vote. Now the party will have no candidate because it is too late to nominate anyone else.

Mr Milton was the candidate in Newsome in 2004 when he polled 709 votes. Mr Walker said: “We’re fuming that they have suddenly brought this into play “They’ve told us this has been the law since 1972. But in that case why haven’t they applied it before?”

Mr Walker said council workers who had stood in the past had signed forms promising to give up their job if they were elected. He said there had been Labour councillors who were elected while working for the council. And he said he believed there was at least one other council employee who was a candidate in this year’s elections.

Mr Walker went on: “This is a very serious issue and we are demanding to know why they have made this sudden move now “They waited until the last minute, when it was too late for us to do anything about it. “We need to have a decent explanation as to why things have suddenly changed.”

A council spokesman could not explain why Mr Milton had been allowed to stand in 2004 but not now.
He added: “All nomination papers include a statement that any person holding office or employment with the local authority will be disqualified from being elected.”

BNP faces inquiry over US fundraising

April 12, 2007

The British National party is being investigated by the Electoral Commission after the Guardian revealed senior figures in the far right group had set up a front organisation in an attempt to raise money from sympathisers in the United States.

Officers from Scotland Yard’s domestic extremism desk took up the case after a series of links between the BNP and fundraising group Civil Liberty were revealed last month.

A spokeswoman for the police confirmed that a file had been passed to the Electoral Commission, which is now taking the lead in the inquiry.

Evidence of any offences would be referred to the Met’s special prosecutions unit and the Crown Prosecution Service.

Since 2001 it has been illegal for a political party to accept overseas donations of more than £200, and party officials breaking the law face a year’s imprisonment or a £5,000 fine.
The Guardian found that Civil Liberty is run by senior BNP activists with all the money donated through its website going to the BNP’s regional headquarters in the north-east.

It also uncovered an audio tape of the BNP chairman, Nick Griffin, speaking at a US conference organised by a former member of the Ku Klux Klan, in which he calls on sympathisers to support BNP members by giving money to Civil Liberty.

“Please throw money at the BNP, actually don’t throw money at the BNP. Quite seriously it’s against the law, but you can as my colleague will be telling you tomorrow, throw money at a group called Civil Liberty which helps members of the BNP and that is within the law.”

The investigation also discovered that:
· Civil Liberty was set up and is run by Kevin Scott, who until September was the BNP’s north-east regional organiser.
· The site’s domain name is registered at the home in Stirling of Steve Blake, the BNP’s website editor.

It is not clear how much money Civil Liberty has raised as its accounts are secret, but the American Friends of the British National party was estimated to have raised £80,000 to £100,000 for the BNP between 1998 and 2001 when it folded – money Mr Griffin said made a “significant contribution to the BNP’s [2001] general election campaign”.

The BNP and Civil Liberty insist they are completely separate organisations. Last night John Walker, national treasurer of the BNP, said: “I am at a loss, because we see major financial scandals involving millions of pounds involving the major parties, and here we have the powers-that-be looking for any angle to swat down the British National party over financial impropriety. I am completely and utterly confident that there has been no cross-pollination of funds from Civil Liberty and the BNP. They are entirely separate from ourselves. But we accept that because we are starting to become a threat to the political establishment, we will come under greater scrutiny.”

However, Nick Lowles of anti-fascist organisation Searchlight welcomed the move. “The evidence suggests there may be some breach of the rules and it is good that the authorities are looking into this, ” he said.

The Commission for Racial Equality has also written to the Electoral Commission calling for a full investigation into the links between the BNP and Civil Liberty following the Guardian article.
Last night the commission confirmed inquiries were underway and that it had contacted both Civil Liberty and the British National party.

Scrotum Alert

April 9, 2007

The chap in the photograph above is your typical Kirklees BNP member.

I have had the misfortune to encounter him on several occasions.

He is normally with the BNP mob at the election count. But I believe he has never been a candidate.

His arms are covered in crap, badly spelt homemade tattoos, which add to his already dishevelled appearance.

He likes to portray himself as a bit of a hard man (Only when there is a crowd though)

However I have stood next to him in a pub(High Park Bradley) and he surprisingly had very little to say for himself.

Not even a hello !

The picture was taken at the BNPs farcical RWB festival.

Ginger Plonker Nick Cass used to organise this but has recently been sacked as they never made any money.

With him was Kirklees BNPs very own poison dwarf David Huntington.

Huntington is so flaky even the BNP banned him from being a candidate after his flop in Dewsbury East.

Mad Dave then went on to slag Nick Cass in the local papers after his deselection.

However, despite this he still likes to help out the BNP from time to time.

Hope not Hate in Kirklees

April 6, 2007

Hope not Hate.

That is what it said on the side of the red double decker bus as it pulled into Morrisons car park in Heckmondwike on Tuesday afternoon.

I have seen both these things this past week.

For those that don’t know,The Daily Mirror and Searchlight magazine have joined forces and are touring the country in an open top bus spreading the message that it is far better to hope than hate. The Mirror have had daily coverage of the tour on its pages.
The tour started in Dagenham on March 24th and it has criss-crossed the country until it reached Glasgow on Good Friday, April 6th.
At each stop celebrities have been out to show their support for the tour and condemn racism, bigotry and prejudice.
Pop stars The Sugababes climbed aboard in Birmingham, and champion boxer Amir Khan jumped on board in Manchester to lend his support.
We had a fantastic time (Even though the weather was cold) along with the many curious shoppers and school kids who wandered by.T-shirts and badges were in high demand.
The whole event was accompanied by Brazilian percussionist Claudio Kron do Brasil and his fantastic band.Claudio encouraged everyone to pick up one of the many musical instruments and join in the fun.And that is exactly what everybody did.
The bus tour is a celebration of our modern society. And there is much to celebrate. We recognise our diversity but also those shared values which bring us together, tolerance, freedom and equality. They are values that make Britain the great country it is.Unfortunately, not everyone shares these values. Perhaps not everyone understands them.Of course, we are not trying to say that everything is perfect but Britain is still a great place to live.
Immigration has made Britain richer – socially, culturally and economically.
And our multicultural society is worth defending.
The tour was organised because our values are under attack. There are fanatics who prefer us to be separated. Those who spread poison, fear, suspicion and violence. This is the politics of hate. These are the views best summed up by the British National Party. It is a party based on racial hatred.
The Hope Not Hate tour gives us an opportunity to offer a rival view of Britain. It is one where the vast majority of people, of all races and religions, want to live peacefully alongside each other.
Warts and all, modern Britain is a society to be celebrated.

The other side of the story is the ridiculously offensive song “Councillor” Colin Auty penned about Saville Town.
Its lyrics are nothing more than crass, racist and hateful and the least said about it the better for that is what it deserves.
I would have thought Dewsbury deserved far better from its councillors than this hateful nonsense.
