COUNCIL chief Robert Light launched a blistering attack on the BNP during Wednesday’s council meeting.
Coun Light dubbed the party “a monster” which stood for “hatred, lies and division”.
The BNP has two councillors in Heckmondwike, and three in total in Kirklees – but Coun Light said its share of the vote had fallen in most wards.
He said: “For that reason alone the election was a good day for democracy, while the BNP members on this council may appear to be the more credible face of this monster, let no-one be fooled, the BNP is a monster.
“They peddle hatred, lies and division and I for one could not look my children in the eyes if I did not oppose them and their ideas.
“The Kirklees public weren’t fooled this time, I sincerely hope they won’t be fooled again.”
